The traditionAL techniques and skill sets of Portuguese heritage are vanishing…

Younger generations are for the most part not carrying on the legacy. They are also facing problems of limited outlets to their work, knowledge of and difficulty accessing the design market, as well as production capabilities.  It is important to find new ways of activating and innovating this system in order to preserve these techniques and continue the transmission of know-how and skill.

Designers and customers are aware of the need for a change in the way humans relate to objects  both environmentally and socially. There is a growing interest in the story behind the piece.

For designers and artists interested in working with Portuguese materials and artisans there is no clear way to access the opportunities that exist.

By presenting clear and accessible information and by inviting a sustained flow of designers both local and international to work in collaboration with the artisans we hope to be able to carry on this important aspect of humanity.
